Palm Desert is where the valley does its shopping and eating — El Paseo, the mountains behind it, and houses on generous lots a few minutes from both.
El Paseo is the draw: a mile of shops, galleries and restaurants that people drive across the valley for. South Palm Desert, where most of our houses are, sits just behind it against the mountains — quiet streets, mature landscaping, and lots big enough that you do not hear your neighbours.
The architecture skews mid-century here too, but on a different scale from Palm Springs: 1960s custom houses on a third of an acre and up, with wood-beam ceilings, clerestory windows, and yards that were designed around entertaining. Bighorn and Marriott Desert Springs bring golf into the mix.
It is central without being busy. The Living Desert is here, the McCallum Theatre, and the hiking at the Bump and Grind trail starts from the edge of town.
